Levi-Strauss', Vernallis & Todorov Narrative Theories

Levi-Strauss

Strauss' theory is about over struggles and how binary opposites lead to conflict. This is shown in our video by the fact that there is a conflict between a couple. Our main focus for the binary opposite is gender as we thought that it went well with our lyrics. Throughout the video the audience are shown different perspectives in the relationship.
WWW: We used editing techniques such as colour isolation on the flamingo as this shows the innocent victim clearly to the audience.
EBI: We could show more binary opposites in the video. We could have shown multiple reasons for the conflict not just through the use of gender.

Vernallis

Todorov

In this sequence, Todorov's theory of there being a clear narrative is used, this is shown by there being a clear equilibrium (its all good at the start), a disruption (the good mood is interrupted) and there is a  resolution.
WWW: The narrative can successfully be understood by the audience. The narrative was very simple making it easier for the audience to follow.
EBI: The sequence uses stills, it would have been better if we had extended the narrative and then filmed it so that then the narrative was even clearer. Furthermore we could have made some more adjustment in postproduction to improve it. In one shot the viewer can also see the arm of the the person holding the prop which we needed to remove. This could either be achieved by post production or re taking the picture.
