Digipak Social Media Feedback

I think that this feedback is useful because it shows what our audience expect from an album cover. They want so see that it is official so the adding of a barcode or the record label will definitely help with that. It was good that they thought that the colours worked well with each other and that the stood out on the album.

The reception of our magazine ad was good because it seemed to resonate well with the audience. They appreciated the official style of the advertisement and it worked well. Again, the bottle is sort of hard to make out in comparison to the colour but it does show the creativity of the colour explosion. :)

Target audience response to magazine advert

From looking our social media feed back we can see that a majority of our audience likes our magazine advert. One thing they like a lot is the colours in the background and the fact that there is a variety of colours as to just one. They also like the layout of the magazine advert despite that they also feel that some areas look blank. We plan on adding more reviews to fill up this space as we only have one review at the moment.

Magazine advert target audience feedback

From looking at our feedback a majority of the feedback says that they like the idea of the colour explosion and the chemical bottle. They also said that was the most creative part of the magazine advert. Also people from looking at the magazine ad found it very easy to figure out the genre of the album which is good as it means we are hitting our target audience of indie rock bands. As for improvments many didn't like the lack of text on the advert and the fact that the text is the same the whole way through. We plan on adding a different font for the reviews on the magazine advert just to feel a little more interesting.

Work in progress

This week we developed our digipack by further working on our digipack covers. By doing this, we can make a satisfactory and audience-exciting digipack.

Work in progress

This week i have been working on the inside of the CD case where we have a picture of me who plays in the band of the music video. we did a photoshoot on Thursday of the band members in different poses. each different member of the band has a primary colour liquid in a flask which is in the shot to show the blast of colour on the front of the case. Using photoshop we have been removing the green screen from the background of the band members and placing them onto the covers. This has taken longer than expected as we could not find the tool needed on the mac.

Word In Progress

Currently, i am working on my Digipak, trying to make the front of the album. The screenshot shows my working on getting rid of the green screen so it is just me in the image. This is proving difficult because of the fact that it is hard to get the colour out the hair ect. Other things i have done on this progress include colour correcting so the colour of the words "remedy" contrast the background and make for a more effective album artwork.

Work in progress

This week we have continued creating our digipack and magazine advert. We have started working on the backgrounds for each section of our digipack and our magazine and have also gone out and taken the needed photos for each section. We took a range of photos together so we had a wide range of choices in case we wanted to do something different from the original plan. We have looked through these photos and have picked the ones we think best fit our digipack and magazine advert.

Evaluation Questions Draft

Question 1 draft:
Relation of sound to image: As seen in this screen shot of our
music video we used a very conventional method of syncing image
and sound used in the rick/indie rock genre, of when there is a sting/ small riff of only instruments then the instrument is shown playing the riff. This is shown on the bass sliding as the band comes in and the camera tracks the hand of the bass player. We found this effective because it became more visual interesting rather than having B-roll which we initially thought of.
Relationship between the music to the visuals: In the music video we have a close up of the bass guitar which plays a distinctive riff in the song.
Representation of the band: all the band are wearing smart casual shirts/ bright colours which shows that the band is upbeat and fun which follows the convention of the indie rock genre. We found this effective because it is easy for our target audience to tell our aim from just watching the video which is what we wanted.
Genre of the music, how is it defined:
The 2 main settings are an open field and a stage with the band performing on it. Both these locations follow the indie rock codes and conventions. However we do challenge the codes and conventions by only have Luke our lead vocalist in our video walking around the open field alone while often indie rock music videos have the entire band playing in an open location.
Setting and location:
Our lighting does fit in with the codes and conventions as we have stage lights on the band while they are performing on the stage. We have also edited lighting in post production bringing out brighter colours in the skin parts and the bright clothing of the actors. Everything is also done with a blue shade to it which fits in with the codes and conventions of the indie rock genre.
In our video we have a game which was popular in the time period that indie rock was becoming more popular. Indie rock music videos often refer to that time period growing up but rarely show it through the means of a game. This also shows binary opposites theory by Levi Strauss. We found this effective because it made the video more visually appealing to our target audience as it challenges the codes and conventions.

Question 3 draft:
Our target audience was mainly white males aged around 17-21. We decided to aim our video towards this audience as we felt that the nature of the song fit with people around this age. typically the genre is popular with this age group as there are many lyrics that refer to the artist's experiences growing up which are often in the late 90's to early 2000's This plan allows us to target these people more effectively so that our music video would be more likely to be popular and gain better feedback.
wordle: we used a wordle to identify the most common words used in the song as they appear larger in text which then helped us understand the key themes of the song so that then we could represent that in our video and planning.
audience interviews. we interviewed several members of our target audience to see what they would expect from our music video. This was extremely helpful as we took people who will have consumed more media showing the indie rock genre meaning we could get more information to add to our planning stage.
survey monkey results were also very useful as we were able to reach more people while researching and made the stats more presentable for us to then visualise this so that we could then compare to other methods of feedback and come to an overall conclusion.
facebook and twitter were mostly useful for gathering feedback as we were able to take a clip upload it and then the people could view it and share it with friends which can help with getting more responses to our questions.
our rough cut feedback helped us a significant amount as we were able to take other peoples views. a fresh set of eyes to tell us what we needed to change.
From the analysis of who has viewed our music video, there is a clear target audience as the analytic suggest that the audience came from the UK and the video was mainly viewed on mobile devices, suggesting that we had mainly received views from our target audience.

Target audience response on music video

Through the feedback of our music video from our audience, we have decided that the genre of the music video is very defined and the audience was able to decode this. In addition to this, the estimated age range of our audience was fairly consistent with it being from mid-teens to early twenties. Something that is needed to be changed is that fact that there is too much of the actor and this does not let us show our conceptual ideas. Something that we picked up is that for it to be an effective music video there needs to be different themes and this is something we can add via an object or symbolism.
