Conventions of the Indie-Rock genre

The music genre that we are specialising in is indie-rock. Indie-rock is an alternate music genre that originated in the United States and United Kingdom in the 1980s. During the early 2000s, four major bands led the way in making the indie-rock genre a mainstream music genre, these bands are:
-The Strokes

-The White Stripes

-The Hives
-The Vines

Indie-rock is a genre that uses the gratification model (by Blumber and Katz.) This model use is suggested in this genre as the music uses low-budget record labels, a characteristic that gives the audience power as they can easily use or play with the music (a feature of the gratification model.) In addition, the use of a simple girl/boy and sensitive lyrics in the music makes the genre appeal to the audience as many listeners can link to the lyrics, another characteristic of the gratification model.
