The other side of this album has a different kind of theme, showing the band members, but not in a glamorous light. The blue sky and light colours are different to the dark front of the album cover. The songs are done in a large, bold font that makes it easy to read. This definitely matches the conventions that you would expect from an indie band because of the light colours and far away shot of the band.
The spine of the CD is very minimalist, with the name of the band and the name of the CD along with the album numbers. In addition, this black colouring emphasises the front of the CD, further more giving off this sense of binary opposites from Levi Strauss due to the fact that it makes the yellow of the globe look more effective.
This paper CD case is very colourful and eye-catching. Initially it messes with the perception of the viewer and it makes them look at it in more depth. It's abstract style and bright colours really define the abstract nature of the rock genre. Because the name of the album is called "the resistance" the bright colours give off a sense of safety, creativity and rebellion which is what this type of rock is about.
Similarly to Coldplay, there is a track listing that it easy to read and a picture of the band members. The faces are blurred out which could represent the fact that it is all about the music when it comes to the rock genre and not on the faces of the members. It could also represent that anyone could be apart of this movement.
When you open the case there are further pictures of the band members, yet again, getting ready to perform live. It is in black and white which could emphasise the seriousness of the picture and hence, the album.
Again, there is a black and white photos of the band member with stern looks on their faces. This picture could go with the codes and conventions of the rock genre because of the fact that their faces are showing and the main focus of this picture is on the band.
This CD cover plays up to it's genre of parody rock with an almost comical style of CD artwork. It shows the two characters with guitars, with them both having goats legs with the devil behind them. This is a satire of the almost religious like nature of rock. The lighting is on the characters and the devil, emphasising their importance as personalities which is how these two people market themselves.
The back of the album adds a sense of mystery to the cover. Again the focus is on the devil with the background being completely black. It makes the album more mysterious and would make the listeners want to listen to the music a lot more. This definitely fits with the codes and conventions of rock because of the fact that there is a religious element to the artwork that could be interpreted as music being the religion to the listeners, which is not uncommon in rock to emphasise music to that extent.
The font of this band name is pretty stylised with the black and white colours contrasting each other. It mostly defines the band name, perhaps giving the band a sense of importance.
