A record label or company is a brand/trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. These big companies will sign famous artists and then aid them producing their song and music video as well as trademarking it, distributing it and enforcing copyright.
Sony Music owns multiple subsidiaries such as ministry of sound and Legacy. It also owns the oldest record label, Columbia formed in 1887. Sony music has contracts with many famous and well known artists such as Foo fighters, AC/DC. They with 2 other companies control roughly 70% of the industry.
