To gain a better understanding of record labels in the music industry, I research record labels that specialised in particular music genres. As of current, there are three large music companies that hold 70% of the world music market. These companies are:
-Universal Music Group
-Sony Music
-Warner Music Group In addition, there are a number of record labels, each specialising in one or two particular genres of music. For example:

-Rough Trade records is an independent record label based in London. Rough Trade originally specialised in punk music and then promoted and sold other genres.
-8bitpeoples is an online record label (a netlabel) that focuses on music with a 8-bit aesthetic, giving their music a retro sound and tune.-The Ministry of Sound is a record label that specialises in Dance and Electric music, they have published and marketed music from a number of high profile Dance/Electric musicians. They are a subsidiary of the Sony music group (itself part of a conglomerate.)
