Iconic video directors

Francis Lawrence is an american filmmaker who has directed popular films and music videos. In the majority of his music videos it is easy to see his ideas on what is important for a music video this being that the focus should be on the artist whether its a band or singular artist. This is easy to tell from the amount of music video genres he goes for where he focus' less on a narrative and more on camera angles of the artist. For example Bad romance by Lady Gaga

In this music video there is still a narrative but mostly focus' on the spectacle of the video genre as that is what the artist is most well known for. The narrative also focus' on the artist as the main character with the narrative also being part of the spectacle making it harder for the audience to notice it.

The editing techniques that are often used in the music videos include match on action, added colour tints in post production and smash cuts. The added colour tints help portray the genre of the music video, which is spectacle. in post production they are able to change the colour depending on what the director and artist want to portray e.g. red to show anger, white to show innocence and so on.
